Formed in 1890 with the merger of De Pere and De Pere West, the city of De Pere runs along the Fox River and consequently can boast two public boat landings as well as access to many miles of the Fox River Trail system. Shopping and Dining

This community favorite is sure to provide the very best first taste of De Pere. Butterfly Books and Trulley Irish Gifts are two more independent retailers not far from De Pere’s downtown. Parks and Recreation
This city offers a fantastic parks and recreation system in addition to the Fox River Trail. Legion Park features sports facilities including baseball, softball and soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, even a hockey rink. For families, Legion offers a playground, picnic area, swimming pool and an ice skating rink. VFW is another well-appointed park with all the same offerings as Legion except for soccer fields. VFW is even more complete with a sledding area and restroom facilities. Voyageur Park is a favorite among locals with its playground, picnic areas, a boat dock and restroom facilities. This is also the location for a number of special events including the now-famous Celebrate De Pere held every year on Memorial Day weekend.

Living
Since 1990 the city of De Pere has planned and carried off Celebrate De Pere, one of the best-known festivals in the state of Wisconsin. With live entertainment including national acts the like Cheap Trick, Joan Jett, the Bo Deans and many other well known names, Celebrate De Pere draws more and more attendance every year. The festivities also include a parade (a favorite activity for families), games and concessions tents as well as the largest Memorial Day fireworks show in the state. It’s barely coincidence that Celebrate De Pere began the same centennial year that De Pere instated its Main Street Program. Over the last two decades, Main Street De Pere has, through careful planning, design and promotion, brought $83 Million in improvements to De Pere’s downtown. Established downtown businesses have flourished, new businesses have moved in and new jobs have been created through the efforts of the program. In addition to Celebrate De Pere, residents and visitors can also look forward to Fall Fest, the Best of the Midwest Rib Cook-Off and, new in 2011, Pier Art: Fins & Feathers, a celebration featuring artwork representing De Pere history in downtown businesses and on the streets.

Schools, Health, Transportation
Due to its origins as two cities, De Pere maintains two public school districts the De Pere Unified School District and West De Pere School District. Between the two, public school children will attend one of four elementary, one intermediate, two middle or two high schools. Notre Dame and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic schools maintains pre-K through eighth grade classes as does the private Wisconsin International School in De Pere. Brown County, where De Pere is located, also manages the Syble Hopp School for children with special needs. One of the best things about life in De Pere is the small town atmosphere paired with proximity to the big city amenities available in neighboring Green Bay. Healthcare for De Pere residents fall into this model with the urgent care Aurora Health Center located right in De Pere while Bellin, St. Vincent and St. Mary’s hospitals are all in Green Bay, within about five miles of De Pere’s downtown. You can get to any hospital, as well as a slew of other destinations, using the Green Bay Metro which maintains several routes through De Pere.
