Green Bay Real Estate & Information

Your dream home on a quiet street flanked with stately trees - this is Green Bay, Wisconsin. Your low-maintenance condo right in the middle of an exciting downtown – this too is Green Bay. Originally settled along Lake Michigan’s shores at the head of the Fox River, Green Bay was the area’s first white mainstay in a predominantly Native American area. First born as a borough, the community became Green Bay through a consolidation of the communities of Astor and Navarino. The arrival of railroads to Green Bay in the 1860‘s encouraged the flow of goods, and people, from Lake Michigan’s shipping lanes to the rest of the region. Today, four major highways and an international airport connect “The City of Celebrations” to the rest of the state and the nation, making Green Bay a center for quality education and business as well as a high quality of life.

Shopping and Dining
As the commercial hub for Wisconsin, and much of Michigan, Green Bay has six malls in addition to its revitalized downtown. In Bay Park Square Mall, stop in to all your favorites like American Eagle, Gap, Old Navy and Kohl’s. A must-see at this mall is the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory where you can watch artisans crafting candy, by hand, in traditional copper kettles. To sample some of Wisconsin’s famous dairy products, take a short drive to Nala’s Fromagerie. After a busy day of mall or home shopping, head downtown where the selection of eateries ranges from casual to chic and everything in between. Grab your favorite to-go in the familiar setting of Subway, A&W or Dairy Queen, or delight in the variety presented by local and regional favorites such as Vita, Urban Frog, Black and Tan Grill and Titletown Brewing Company restaurants.

Parks and Recreation
In season or out, there’s always something happening at Lambeau Field, current home of the Green Bay Packers. The recently-updated stadium now serves as a year-round tourist destination with a host of amenities and attractions. For those more inclined toward the outdoors, get away to the Fox River State Recreational Trail, a 25-mile, multiuse trail that begins inside the city’s borders at the corner of Porlier and Adams streets. Also easily accessible from town, the 700 acres of Bay Beach Sanctuary were created to provide opportunities for people to interact with and learn about native wildlife. Here you can plan a camping trip or charter a fishing boat during the summer, or come with a group of friends for outdoor ice skating during the winter months.

Living
Green Bay takes pride in its special events which include everything from the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon in the spring to outdoor concerts in the summer and Winterfest on Broadway held in January. An evening in the city’s vibrant downtown could include a trip to the theater, a Packer’s game or both. The 1000-seat Meyer Theatre is considered a premier northeast venue for many travelling national and international artists and entertainers. This town can also boast what many cities cannot, a robust and diversified economy that includes the recession-resistant paper industry. Transportation, manufacturing, insurance and the health care industries are also major sources of Green Bay’s economic well being. Tourism makes up another lucrative segment with The Green Bay Packers Corporation alone contributing over 1,600 full and part time jobs to the economy.

Schools, Health, Transportation
Green Bay is noted for its primary and secondary schools which include magnet schools and other innovations. In addition, the Green Bay Area Public School District has formed an educational endowment to support excellence and creativity. College students come to Green Bay to attend the University of Wisconsin, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College and Bellin College of Nursing, among others. In fact, the area has more than seven major universities and three major health care providers. Bellin Memorial Hospital, Aurora Bay Care Medical Center and St. Vincent Hospital have implemented programs in the areas of physician-collaboration, transparency, and preventive care. Their innovations are presently being studied at the national level as models for improving healthcare and reducing delivery costs. Just one more example of how the city of Green Bay is leading the way, and how you can benefit when you choose to relocate here.
